The Suburban Protector Handgun Academy is a progressive three-level training system designed to take you from the fundamentals of firearm safety to confident, real-world defensive skills. Whether you’re new to handguns or looking to sharpen your defensive tactics, our courses are built for everyday protectors who take safety seriously.
Protector Level 1 – The Foundation – Safety, Confidence, Marksmanship
This entry-level course is perfect for beginners and anyone looking to solidify their fundamentals. You’ll learn essential handgun safety, handling, and shooting basics in a supportive and empowering environment.
- Firearm safety rules and responsible ownership
- Proper grip, stance, and trigger control
- Loading, unloading, and basic malfunction clearing
- Sight alignment and sight picture
- Live-fire range drills for accuracy and confidence
Protector Level 2 – Defensive Skills & Real World Applications
This level builds your capability as a true protector through defensive shooting, movement, and scenario-based training. You’ll sharpen your skills under stress and learn to apply them in realistic, high-pressure situations.
- Drawing from a holster (open and concealed)
- Defensive shooting under stress and while moving
- Engaging multiple targets with use of cover and concealment
- Tactical reloads, malfunction clearing
- Threat recognition, shoot/no-shoot decision-making
- Close-quarters tactics and single hand shooting
- Scenario-based training (home invasion, carjacking, etc.)
- Mental preparedness and legal considerations
Protector Level 3 – Force on Force: Real Encounters. Real Stress. Real Decisions.
Our Force on Force course is designed for students who want to take their training beyond the range and into high-stress, reality-based scenarios. Using non-lethal training tools and protective gear, you’ll face live role-players in dynamic situations that test your judgment, reactions, and skills under pressure. This is where theory meets real-world chaos.
- Scenario-based confrontations with live role-players (home defense, public attacks, etc.)
- Use of SIRT, UTM, or airsoft training guns for realism and safety
- Decision-making under stress: de-escalation, engagement, or escape
- Proper verbal commands, posture, and presence during an encounter
- Immediate aftermath training: what to do and say once the threat is stopped
- Debrief and analysis of each scenario to reinforce learning and mindset
Concealed Weapons License
All of our handgun training courses meet and exceed the state training requirement for obtaining a Florida Concealed Weapons License (CWL). Whether you’re attending Level 1 of our Protector Series or advancing into more tactical training, you’ll receive expert instruction on firearm safety, handling, and legal considerations—ensuring you’re fully prepared and qualified to apply for your concealed carry permit in Florida. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of training to include with their CWL application.
Defensive Rifle: Practical Rifle Skills for Real-World Defense
Our Defensive Rifle Course is designed to give you the knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively use a rifle in a defensive situation. Whether you’re running an AR-15 platform or another defensive carbine, this course focuses on practical application, not just range drills. You’ll train in rifle handling, defensive shooting techniques, and movement under stress—all with an emphasis on real-world readiness and personal protection.
- Proper setup and zeroing of your defensive rifle
- Defensive rifle handling and safety under stress
- Ready positions, sling use, and rifle-to-pistol transitions
- Target engagement from various distances and positions
- Shooting on the move and use of cover
- Reloads, malfunction clearing, and stress drills
Custom Training
We can custom tailor a course to the skills and tactics that you and your group want to focus on. This is our most popular course for families and groups of friends because we customize this specifically to your skill level and goals. We require a minimum of 4 people per course for a customized training.
We provide eye and ear protection, targets, and firearms. You are responsible for ammo and the range fee.
