Firearm Training in Stuart, FL — Concealed Carry Classes, Shooting Lessons & Personal Defense Instruction on the Treasure Coast
You bought a firearm because the people you love depend on you to make good decisions. Maybe it stays in the nightstand, locked in your truck cab, or rides with you across the bridges and back roads that connect Stuart to the rest of the Treasure Coast. You have been to the range. You have put rounds on paper and felt what it’s like to have that tool in your hands. But somewhere in the back of your mind, a question has never fully gone away — if something happened right now, in a parking lot off US-1, outside a restaurant on Flagler, or on a quiet street in a neighborhood that feels safe until it isn’t, would you actually respond the way you need to?
Most firearm owners in Stuart would answer that question honestly if pressed — and the answer would be no. Not because they are reckless. Not because they don’t care. But because Stuart is a town that values self-reliance, and self-reliance around a firearm requires more than ownership. The group classes at regional ranges treat every student the same regardless of experience, rush through curriculum to stay on schedule, and offer no feedback on the specific habits you are quietly reinforcing every time you pull the trigger. YouTube can show you technique but cannot see your grip, catch your anticipation flinch, or tell you that your draw from concealment needs work before it becomes muscle memory you cannot undo. Static range sessions with paper targets tell you where your shots land — they tell you nothing about how you perform when your heart rate spikes and the situation does not wait for you to get comfortable.
Stuart is a community built on independence. People here fish before sunrise, work with their hands, raise families with space to breathe, and make deliberate choices about how they protect what matters. Choosing to own a firearm is one of those deliberate choices. But the distance between owning one and being genuinely prepared to use it under real pressure — that gap is where good intentions run out. Suburban Protector was built specifically to close it.
Stuart Shooters Are Putting Rounds Downrange — But Are They Ready When It Actually Counts?

Stuart's Go-To Firearm Instructor — Real Training for Treasure Coast Living
Suburban Protector is led by Mike Kneuer — NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, Tactical Hyve Level 1 Certified, USCCA member, Stop the Bleed instructor, and competitive USPSA shooter with 22 years of concealed carry experience. Mike didn’t walk out of a weekend seminar and hang up a shingle. He pursued the most demanding instructor development programs available anywhere in the country, earned credentials that the vast majority of Florida firearm trainers have never even pursued, and shaped every course around a single question: when this student drives home from the range, are they genuinely more prepared to protect the people who depend on them?
Suburban Protector is a Florida nonprofit — which means no sales agenda, no upsells, and no divided loyalties. Our only measure of success is your readiness. Stuart sits at a unique crossroads: a laid-back Treasure Coast community where the waterfront lifestyle can create a false sense of distance from real-world threat. That distance is exactly what we train against. The situations that demand a defensive response rarely happen where you expect them — they happen on a weekend run to the marina, in a parking lot off US-1, or closer to home than anyone wants to admit. With more than 50 five-star Google reviews from students across the region, Suburban Protector has become the instructor that Stuart and Martin County residents turn to when they decide that carrying a firearm without serious training is no longer something they’re willing to accept.
We train at Palm Beach Shooting Center in Lake Worth — a professional indoor facility well worth the drive for Stuart residents who want a structured, distraction-free environment to build real fundamentals — and at Smoke & Barrel Gun Club, our private 1.25-acre outdoor tactical range near Okeechobee, where scenario-based defensive drills unfold the way threats actually do: with movement, uncertainty, and decision-making under pressure. No indoor range in South Florida can replicate what happens on that property. Whether you’ve never held a firearm or you’ve been carrying for years without ever truly stress-testing your skills, every session is built around you — your weapon, your life, and the specific risks that come with living on the Treasure Coast.

Stuart Firearm Training for Treasure Coast Residents Who Take Protection Seriously

Stuart is a different kind of South Florida. It’s a working waterfront town — marina culture, sprawling rural roads, and neighborhoods where people have always understood that personal protection is a personal responsibility. When Stuart residents train with Suburban Protector, they get instruction built around their actual life: their firearm, their skill level, and the real situations they’re most likely to face on the Treasure Coast.
Here is what we offer:
Private Firearm Lessons — $125 per session
One-on-one shooting lessons for every skill level, from first-time gun owners in Stuart to experienced shooters who’ve plateaued and can’t figure out why. Stuart’s mix of rural stretches and busy waterfront corridors means the situations you might face are different from a Boca Raton suburb — and your training should reflect that. We work through stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control, accuracy fundamentals, and defensive application with live feedback after every repetition. A 12-person group class cannot watch your trigger finger. We can. Available at Palm Beach Shooting Center in Lake Worth. Firearm rental available for $50.
Florida Concealed Carry Certification (CWFL) — $200–$250
Stuart residents carry. That’s the reality of life on the Treasure Coast — long stretches of road, isolated areas, and a community that doesn’t wait for someone else to show up. But carrying a firearm on US-1, through Martin County, or anywhere in Florida means being genuinely prepared — not just legally permitted. Our Florida concealed carry class is live-fire focused and covers Florida carry laws, safe holster use, drawing from concealment, and the kind of defensive decision-making that holds up under real stress. Instructor Mike Kneuer provides the NRA-certified instructor sign-off required for your Florida CWFL application.
Protector Level 1 — Pistol Fundamentals — $150
A three-hour beginner to intermediate pistol course at our private outdoor range near Okeechobee — just a straight shot west of Stuart on Route 76. Limited to 10 students. Built for the Stuart gun owner who wants more than an afternoon at the range — who wants a real foundation that transfers to real life. Covers stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control, live-fire accuracy drills, and multi-target engagement. If you own a firearm and have never had formal instruction, this is your starting point.
Protector Level 2 — Concealed Carry Concepts — $200
Advanced concealed carry training for Stuart residents who already carry and want to close the gap between having a permit and actually being ready. Drawing from a holster, shooting on the move, vehicle-based defense scenarios, cover and concealment, and high-stress drills with magazine changes under pressure. On the rural roads and isolated boat ramps that define life in Martin County, response times can be long. This course is built for the reality of where you actually live. Includes Florida CCW instructor sign-off.
EmpowHER Women-Only Firearm Training — $100
A women-only shooting program for women in Stuart and across the Treasure Coast who want to learn firearms in an environment built entirely for them — no judgment, no intimidation, no condescension. Stuart women are independent by nature. This course matches that. No experience required. Firearms, eye protection, and ear protection are all provided. Groups of 4 to 8 women. Confidence with a firearm is not a personality type — it is a skill, and every woman on the Treasure Coast can build it.
Group Firearm Training — from $100 per person
Custom group gun training for Stuart families, friend groups, waterfront communities, marina organizations, and Martin County HOAs. Indoor at Palm Beach Shooting Center or outdoor at Smoke & Barrel in Okeechobee. Every session is built around your group’s goals and experience level — not a recycled curriculum with Stuart dropped into the first sentence. Whether your group is brand new to firearms or looking to sharpen skills they already have, the instruction is real and the results are measurable.
Stop the Bleed Certification — $75 per person (groups of 4+)
Nationally affiliated bleeding control training for Stuart residents and Martin County groups. Covers tourniquet application, wound packing, and direct pressure technique. No medical background required. One hour. All materials included. When you’re boating, fishing, or working in areas where EMS response is measured in many minutes — not a few — knowing how to stop a bleed is not optional. This course closes that gap.
Stuart Residents Don't Just Shoot — They Go Home Ready for Whatever Comes Next.
There is a moment many Stuart gun owners recognize. You have had your firearm for months — maybe years. You have taken it out to the range once or twice, run a few magazines through it, and told yourself that counts for something. But when you are driving home on Kanner Highway after dark, or pulling into your driveway off Salerno Road, or sitting with your family at the house you have worked hard to build — the question quietly surfaces. If something actually happened right here, right now, would you be ready?
Not legally ready. Not technically ready in theory. Actually ready — in your hands, in your mind, under pressure.
That question deserves more than a search result. It deserves a real answer from someone who takes it as seriously as you do.
Stuart residents who train with Suburban Protector get exactly that. Instructor Mike Kneuer works with Treasure Coast gun owners who are done assuming their firearm makes them prepared — and ready to do the work that actually does. The training is personal, focused, and built around your life. Your firearm. Your neighborhood. The real situations a Stuart resident is most likely to face — not a generic range drill designed for someone in a completely different environment.
Stuart is not a city people move to by accident. They come here for the water, the pace, the sense that community still means something. But quieter does not mean safer by default. Martin County is growing. The roads are busier. The gaps between assumption and actual skill have real consequences. If you own a firearm and live here, the most responsible thing you can do is close that gap — not someday, but now.
Mike is one call away.
