Firearm Training in Fort Pierce, FL — Gun Lessons, CCW Classes & Shooting Instruction
You bought a firearm because you know what kind of world you are living in. Fort Pierce is your home — and you love it. But you also know its realities. You have seen the headlines. You have felt the unease walking through certain parking lots at night, or sitting at a stoplight on US-1 wondering what you would actually do if something went wrong. So you made a decision. You armed yourself. And that decision matters.
But here is the question that sits in the back of your mind — the one that surfaces when things get quiet: if something happened right now, today, in the parking lot of the Treasure Coast Square or on a side street off Orange Avenue at night, would you actually know what to do? Not hope. Not assume. Know.
Most firearm owners in Fort Pierce cannot honestly answer yes. Not because they are reckless. Not because they do not care. But because carrying a firearm and being trained to deploy it under life-or-death pressure are two entirely different things — and nobody ever walked them through the difference. The group classes at public ranges move too fast for some and too slow for others, and they are built around liability, not learning. YouTube channels can show you technique but cannot see the way your wrist breaks under recoil, the trigger slap you have been reinforcing for two years without knowing it, or the hesitation that creeps in when the scenario gets real. And shooting at a flat paper target in a controlled bay teaches your hands one thing while real defensive situations demand something else entirely — decision-making under stress, with adrenaline in your bloodstream and everything on the line.
Fort Pierce is a city built by people who work hard, handle their own business, and do not ask for much. That same grit that defines this community is exactly what makes its residents worth training the right way. Owning a firearm is a serious commitment — and that commitment does not stop the moment you walk out of the gun store. The gap between having a firearm and being ready to use it when it counts is the most dangerous place any gun owner can stand. That gap is exactly what Suburban Protector exists to close.
Most Fort Pierce Gun Owners Have a Firearm at Home — But No Plan for the Moment It Matters.

The Treasure Coast's Most Respected Firearm Instructor — Training Built for Fort Pierce's Real World
Suburban Protector is led by Mike Kneuer — NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, Tactical Hyve Level 1 Certified, USCCA member, Stop the Bleed instructor, and competitive USPSA shooter with 22 years of concealed carry experience. Mike didn’t walk out of a weekend seminar and print business cards. He pursued the most demanding instructor development programs available in the country, earned credentials that the vast majority of Florida firearm trainers have never bothered to attempt, and built every course around a single standard: when this student drives home from the range, are they genuinely more capable of protecting themselves and the people who depend on them?
Suburban Protector is a Florida nonprofit — which means no sales agenda, no upsells, no filler. Just training built around your readiness. Fort Pierce is a city that doesn’t sugarcoat reality. It’s a working community on the Treasure Coast where people understand — often from personal experience — that safety isn’t something you outsource. Crime doesn’t follow a schedule, and a firearm you don’t know how to use under pressure is not protection. It’s a liability. We built our program for Fort Pierce residents who have already made the decision to take their safety seriously and are ready to back that decision with real skills. With more than 50 five-star Google reviews from students across South Florida, Suburban Protector has become the instructor Fort Pierce residents call when they’re done treating their firearm like a backup plan and ready to treat it like a commitment.
We train at a licensed indoor range accessible from Fort Pierce, and at Smoke & Barrel Gun Club — our private 1.25-acre outdoor tactical range near Okeechobee, where scenario-based defensive drills run the way real threats actually unfold. No indoor facility in South Florida can replicate what we do there. Whether you’ve never taken a formal class or you’ve been carrying for years and know your fundamentals have gaps, every session at Suburban Protector is built around you — your firearm, your experience level, and the real-world situations Fort Pierce puts in front of you.

Firearm Training Courses for Fort Pierce Residents — Structured Around Your Life, Your Firearm, Your Risk

Fort Pierce is not a city that needs to be convinced that safety matters. It is a city that has lived it — neighborhood by neighborhood, block by block. When Fort Pierce residents train with Suburban Protector, they get instruction built around their actual life: their firearm, their environment, and the real-world situations they are most likely to face on the Treasure Coast.
Here is what we offer:
Private Firearm Lessons — $125 per session
One-on-one shooting lessons for every skill level, from first-time gun owners in Fort Pierce to experienced shooters who have been doing it the same way for years and know something is off but cannot identify what. Private instruction cuts through everything a group class cannot — because when there are twelve people on the line, nobody is watching your trigger finger. We work through stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control, accuracy fundamentals, and defensive application with live feedback after every repetition. This is not a range trip. It is a training session with a purpose. Firearm rental available for $50.
Florida Concealed Carry Certification (CWFL) — $200–$250
Fort Pierce residents who carry — or who are thinking about carrying — deserve more than a class designed to check a legal box. Our Florida concealed carry certification is live-fire and built around genuine preparedness. We cover Florida carry laws, safe holster use, drawing from concealment, and the defensive decision-making that has to function under stress — not just in a classroom. Whether you are driving US-1, walking to your car at night, or protecting your family at home, being legally permitted and being actually ready are two different things. Instructor Mike Kneuer provides the NRA-certified instructor sign-off required for your Florida CWFL application.
Protector Level 1 — Pistol Fundamentals — $150
A three-hour beginner to intermediate pistol course held at our private outdoor range near Okeechobee — close enough to Fort Pierce to make the drive worth every minute. Limited to 10 students. This is for the Fort Pierce gun owner who has been meaning to get real training and keeps putting it off. Covers stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control, live-fire accuracy drills, and multi-target engagement. If you own a firearm and have never had structured instruction, this is the course that builds the foundation everything else depends on.
Protector Level 2 — Concealed Carry Concepts — $200
For Fort Pierce residents who already carry and want to close the gap between having a permit and being prepared to use it. This course goes beyond the fundamentals — drawing from a holster, shooting on the move, vehicle-based defense scenarios, cover and concealment, and high-stress drills with magazine changes under pressure. Fort Pierce is a city where situational awareness is not optional. This course is built for people who understand that and want their training to match their reality. Includes Florida CCW instructor sign-off.
EmpowHER Women-Only Firearm Training — $100
A women-only firearm training program for women in Fort Pierce and across the Treasure Coast who want to learn in an environment built entirely around them — no judgment, no intimidation, no being talked over. No prior experience required. Firearms, eye protection, and ear protection are all provided. Groups of 4 to 8 women. Fort Pierce women have every reason to be confident and capable with a firearm. This course is how that confidence gets built — one skill at a time, in a space that was designed for you from the start.
Group Firearm Training — from $100 per person
Custom group gun training for Fort Pierce families, friend groups, neighborhood organizations, civic groups, and workplaces that want their people genuinely prepared — not just briefly entertained. Sessions are available indoors or at Smoke & Barrel Gun Club in Okeechobee, our private 1.25-acre tactical outdoor range. Every group session is structured around your people, your goals, and your starting point. Fort Pierce has a strong sense of community — this is training that reflects that.
Stop the Bleed Certification — $75 per person (groups of 4+)
Nationally affiliated bleeding control training available to Fort Pierce residents and St. Lucie County groups. Covers tourniquet application, wound packing, and direct pressure technique. No medical background required. One hour. All materials included. If you own a firearm in Fort Pierce and you have never trained to stop a bleed, you have prepared for one half of an emergency and left the other half to chance. This course closes that gap.
Fort Pierce Gun Owners Don't Just Shoot — They Leave Knowing Exactly What to Do.
There is a moment a lot of Fort Pierce gun owners know well. You bought the firearm with intention. Maybe you have put some rounds downrange, maybe you carry regularly. But when you drive through certain parts of US-1 after dark, or you think about what happens if something goes wrong on your property off Okeechobee Road — the honest question surfaces. Would you actually handle it right? Not freeze. Not hesitate. Not make a decision you cannot take back. Actually handle it.
That question does not go away by ignoring it. And it does not get answered by a crowded range class where you fire fifty rounds at a stationary target and drive home. Fort Pierce is not that kind of city, and you are not looking for that kind of training.
Suburban Protector was built for gun owners who are ready to close the gap between owning a firearm and being genuinely prepared to use one. Instructor Mike Kneuer works with Fort Pierce residents one-on-one — building sessions around your firearm, your carry habits, your neighborhood, and the real-world situations St. Lucie County actually presents. This is not a curriculum designed for the suburbs of Boca. It is instruction built around how you live and what you are protecting.
Fort Pierce has grit. It has history. It has residents who do not need to be convinced that preparedness matters — they already know it. What they need is an instructor who takes that seriously and gives them training that holds up when the stakes are real. The kind of muscle memory and decision-making that does not collapse under stress because you have already worked through it, on a real range, under real pressure, with an instructor who has 22 years of concealed carry experience behind every correction he makes.
Mike is one call away.
