Firearm Training in Boynton Beach, FL — Gun Lessons, CCW Classes & Shooting Instruction

You bought a firearm because the world does not always feel as safe as it used to. Maybe it sits loaded on your nightstand, rides in your center console on your commute down Oakland Park Boulevard, or stays holstered when you take the family to Sawgrass Mills on a busy Saturday. You have put rounds through it. You know how it feels in your hand. But somewhere in the back of your mind — quietly, persistently — a question you have never fully answered sits waiting: if something went wrong right now, in a crowded parking garage or outside a gas station on Sunrise Boulevard after dark, would your training actually hold up under pressure?

Most firearm owners in Sunrise would be honest enough to admit the answer is probably not. Not because they are reckless. Not because they do not care deeply about protecting the people they love. But because nobody ever showed them what real readiness looks like when your heart rate doubles, your vision narrows, and the situation stops following any script. The packed group classes at local ranges move at the slowest student’s pace and treat every shooter like a beginner with no time to spare for your specific weaknesses. YouTube tutorials cannot see the flinch you have built into your trigger pull or the grip tension you have been reinforcing for two years without knowing it. And punching holes in a stationary paper target under fluorescent lights does absolutely nothing to simulate the chaos, the noise, and the adrenaline dump that comes with a genuine defensive encounter.

Sunrise is a city of working families, first responders, and people who made a deliberate choice to be armed and responsible. That choice carries weight. The gap between owning a firearm and being genuinely prepared to deploy it when it matters most is not a small one — and it is the most consequential gap a gun owner can leave open. Bridging it is exactly what Suburban Protector was built to do.

Most Boynton Beach Gun Owners Are Practicing at the Range — Not Preparing for Real Life.

Firearm training in Sunrise FL with NRA-certified instructor Mike Kneuer

Boynton Beach's Most Trusted Firearm Instructor — Training That Fits Your Neighborhood

Suburban Protector is led by Mike Kneuer — NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, Tactical Hyve Level 1 Certified, USCCA member, Stop the Bleed instructor, and competitive USPSA shooter with 22 years of concealed carry experience. Mike didn’t walk out of a weekend seminar and hang up a shingle. He sought out the most demanding instructor development programs in the country, earned credentials that the vast majority of Florida firearm trainers have never pursued, and built every course around a single standard: when this student drives home from the range, are they meaningfully more equipped to protect themselves and the people who depend on them?

Suburban Protector is a Florida nonprofit — which means we answer to one thing only: your preparedness. Sunrise sits at a unique crossroads — a city dense with shopping centers, apartment complexes, busy arterials, and residential neighborhoods where families have put down real roots. That mix of foot traffic, crowded public spaces, and close-quarter living creates a threat environment that’s different from what you’d find further west or south. We built our training program for people who navigate that environment every day — people who understand that danger doesn’t give a warning, and who want instruction that prepares them for the world they actually live in. With more than 50 five-star Google reviews from students across South Florida, Suburban Protector has become the firearm training academy that Sunrise residents turn to when they decide that owning a firearm and being ready to use one are two very different things.

We train at Palm Beach Shooting Center in Lake Worth — a professional indoor range with a straightforward drive from Sunrise — and at Smoke & Barrel Gun Club, our private 1.25-acre outdoor tactical range near Okeechobee, where we conduct scenario-based defensive training that no indoor facility in South Florida comes close to replicating. Whether you’ve just purchased your first firearm or you’ve been carrying for years and finally want your skills to match your commitment, every session is built entirely around you.

Sunrise is a city that does not slow down. From the Sawgrass Expressway to the neighborhoods tucked behind Inverrary and the streets surrounding BB&T Center, life here moves fast — and the responsibility of protecting yourself and your family moves with it. When Sunrise residents train with Suburban Protector, they get instruction built around their actual life: their firearm, their neighborhood, and the real-world situations they are most likely to face.

Here is what we offer:

Private Firearm Lessons — $125 per session

One-on-one shooting lessons for every skill level, from first-time gun owners in Sunrise who just brought home their first firearm, to experienced shooters who keep showing up to the range and leaving frustrated. Private instruction works because it is entirely about you — your grip, your trigger pull, your bad habits, and your breakthroughs. A packed group class cannot catch the flinch you developed three months ago. We work through stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control, accuracy fundamentals, and defensive application with live feedback after every single repetition. Available at a range convenient to Sunrise residents. Firearm rental available for $50.

Florida Concealed Carry Certification (CWFL) — $200–$250

Sunrise sits in the middle of one of the most trafficked corridors in Broward County. If you are carrying along Oakland Park Boulevard, in the Sawgrass Mills parking lot, or anywhere in between, a permit alone is not preparation. Our Florida concealed carry course is live-fire focused and built around the decisions that actually matter under stress — Florida carry law, safe holster use, drawing from concealment, and the judgment that separates a legal, justified response from a catastrophic one. Mike provides the NRA-certified instructor sign-off required for your Florida CWFL application.

Protector Level 1 — Pistol Fundamentals — $150

A three-hour beginner to intermediate pistol course at our private outdoor range in Okeechobee, FL. Limited to 10 students. Built for the Sunrise gun owner who is done winging it — who wants a real foundation that actually transfers to real life instead of just punching paper. Covers stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control, live-fire accuracy drills, and multi-target engagement. If you own a firearm and have never had formal instruction, this is your starting point.

Protector Level 2 — Concealed Carry Concepts — $200

For Sunrise residents who already carry and know there is a gap between having a permit and being genuinely ready to use it. This course closes that gap. Drawing from a holster, shooting on the move, vehicle-based defense scenarios, cover and concealment, and high-stress magazine changes under pressure. Sunrise is not a quiet town. If you carry here, train like it. Includes Florida CCW instructor sign-off.

EmpowHER Women-Only Firearm Training — $100

A women-only firearm program built entirely around the women of Sunrise and South Florida who want to learn in an environment free of judgment, ego, and condescension. No experience required. Eye protection, ear protection, and firearms are all provided. Groups of 4 to 8 women. Confidence with a firearm is not something you are born with — it is something you build. Every woman in Sunrise can build it, and this is where that starts.

Group Firearm Training — from $100 per person

Custom group gun training for Sunrise families, friend groups, HOA communities, corporate teams, and organizations of every kind. Indoor at our Pompano Beach location or outdoor at Smoke & Barrel in Okeechobee. No recycled curriculum, no generic handouts with your city dropped into the header. Every session is structured around your group’s specific goals, experience levels, and real-life context. Real instruction. Real results.

Stop the Bleed Certification — $75 per person (groups of 4+)

Bleeding control training available to Sunrise residents and Broward County groups. Covers tourniquet application, wound packing, and direct pressure technique. No medical background required. One hour. All materials included. A firearm is a tool for preventing harm — knowing how to stop a bleed is what you do when prevention was not enough. This course is one hour and it fills a gap most gun owners in Sunrise do not even realize they have.

Boynton Beach Gun Owners Don't Just Practice — They Leave Prepared.

There is a moment many Sunrise gun owners recognize. You have had your firearm for a while. Maybe you have taken it out a few times, run some rounds through it at the range off Flamingo Road. But the question that does not go away is quieter than that — if something actually happened at your front door, in the Sawgrass Mills parking garage, on the way home through a neighborhood that did not used to make you nervous — would you actually be ready?

Not legally ready. Not technically ready on paper. Actually ready — when your hands are shaking, the light is bad, and someone you love is standing behind you.

That question deserves more than a crowded weekend course where you are one of thirty people and the instructor forgets your name before lunch. It deserves focused, one-on-one training built around your life — your home layout, your daily routes, your specific firearm, and what you are genuinely trying to protect.

That is what Sunrise residents get when they train with Suburban Protector. Mike works with local gun owners who are tired of carrying a firearm they are not fully confident using. People who want to close the gap between owning one and being truly prepared with one. The skills Mike builds do not evaporate under pressure — because you have already trained through pressure before it counts.

Sunrise is a city that moves fast. Dense neighborhoods, heavy commuter corridors, a population that keeps growing — and with that growth comes the kind of unpredictability that makes situational awareness and firearm proficiency worth taking seriously. If you live here and carry, or keep a firearm at home, there is no good reason to leave that skill half-developed.

Mike is one call away.
