Firearm Training in Wellington, FL — Gun Lessons, CCW Classes & Shooting Instruction
You bought a firearm because the people under your roof matter more than anything else. Maybe it sits in your nightstand, rides with you in your center console, or stays on your hip from the moment you leave the house. You have put rounds through it. You have stood at the line, found your sight picture, and walked away feeling like you have done your part.
But somewhere in the back of your mind, a question has never fully gone away — if something happened right now, in the parking lot of the Mall at Wellington Green, or on a dark street off Greenview Shores Boulevard on the way back to your car, would your training actually hold up when it counted?
Wellington is one of the most family-oriented communities in Palm Beach County. The same care that goes into choosing the right neighborhood, the right school, and the right pediatrician belongs in your approach to firearm readiness. Owning a gun and being genuinely prepared to use one under pressure are two very different things — and the distance between them is exactly where danger lives.
Closing that gap, for Wellington families who refuse to leave protection to chance, is precisely what Suburban Protector was built to do.
Most Wellington Gun Owners Are Building Trigger Time — Not Building Real Readiness.

Wellington's Firearm Instructor — Built for the Way You Live Here
Suburban Protector is led by Mike Kneuer — NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, Tactical Hyve Level 1 Certified, USCCA member, Stop the Bleed instructor, and competitive USPSA shooter who has carried concealed for 22 years. Mike did not walk out of a weekend seminar with a laminated card and open a business. He has pursued the most demanding instructor development programs available anywhere in the country, earned credentials that most Florida firearm trainers have never heard of, let alone attempted, and he builds every single session around one non-negotiable standard: when this student drives back to Wellington, are they genuinely more capable of protecting themselves and the people they love than they were this morning?
Suburban Protector operates as a Florida nonprofit — which means there are no upsells, no quota to hit, and no agenda beyond your actual readiness. Wellington attracts people who are intentional about how they live. They research the neighborhoods, they vet the schools, they plan ahead. That same deliberateness is exactly what should be applied to firearm training — because the threats that find their way into even the safest communities do not come with advance notice, and they do not care how quiet your street is most nights.
We built this program for Wellington residents who have already made the decision to carry but have not yet found training that meets the standard they hold everything else in their life to. With more than 50 five-star Google reviews from students across Palm Beach County, Suburban Protector has become the instructor Wellington gun owners recommend to each other when they stop treating their firearm like an insurance policy they hope to never use and start treating it like a skill that demands real investment.
We train at Palm Beach Shooting Center in Lake Worth — a professional indoor range a short drive from Wellington — and at Smoke & Barrel Gun Club, our private 1.25-acre outdoor tactical range near Okeechobee, where we run scenario-based defensive training that no indoor facility in South Florida can come close to replicating. Whether you are brand new to firearms or you have been carrying for years and know deep down that your training has not kept pace with that responsibility, every session is built entirely around you — your carry setup, your lifestyle, and the specific gaps standing between where you are now and where you need to be.

Wellington's Firearm Training Programs — Designed for How You Actually Live and Carry

Wellington is a community built around intention. The equestrian estates, the family neighborhoods off Stribling Way, the evening walks and school pickup lines — it is a place where people have worked hard to build something worth protecting. When Wellington residents train with Suburban Protector, they get instruction designed around their actual life: the firearm they carry, the skill level they are starting from, and the real-world situations most likely to unfold in the places they actually go.
Here is what we offer:
Private Firearm Lessons — $125 per session
One-on-one shooting lessons for every skill level, from first-time gun owners in Wellington to experienced shooters who have plateaued and cannot identify why. A 12-person group class cannot watch your trigger finger — private instruction can. We work through stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control, accuracy fundamentals, and defensive application with live feedback after every single repetition. Available at Palm Beach Shooting Center in Lake Worth, a short drive west of Wellington. Firearm rental available for $50.
Florida Concealed Carry Certification (CWFL) — $200–$250
Wellington residents carry in parking lots, at equestrian events, on evening runs through the neighborhood, and everywhere in between. A concealed carry license that came from a course where nobody touched a firearm is not preparation — it is paperwork. Our Florida concealed carry class is live-fire focused and covers Florida carry laws, safe holster use, drawing from concealment, and the kind of defensive decision-making that holds up when adrenaline takes over. Mike provides the NRA-certified instructor sign-off required for your Florida CWFL application.
Protector Level 1 — Pistol Fundamentals — $150
A three-hour beginner to intermediate pistol course at our private outdoor range in Okeechobee, FL. Limited to 10 students. Built for the Wellington gun owner who wants more than a range trip — who wants a real foundation that actually transfers to real life. Covers stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control, live-fire accuracy drills, and multi-target engagement. If you own a firearm and have never had formal instruction, this is where you start.
Protector Level 2 — Concealed Carry Concepts — $200
Advanced concealed carry training for Wellington residents who already carry and are ready to close the gap between having a permit and being genuinely prepared. Drawing from a holster, shooting on the move, vehicle-based defense scenarios, cover and concealment, and high-stress drills with magazine changes under pressure. Wellington is a safe community — and prepared people are a large part of why safe communities stay that way. Includes Florida CCW instructor sign-off.
EmpowHER Women-Only Firearm Training — $100
A women-only shooting program for women in Wellington and across Palm Beach County who want to learn firearms in an environment designed entirely around them — no judgment, no intimidation, no talking down. No experience required. Firearms, eye protection, and ear protection are all provided. Groups of 4 to 8 women. Confidence with a firearm is not something you are born with — it is something you build, and every woman in Wellington can build it.
Group Firearm Training — from $100 per person
Custom group gun training for Wellington families, HOA communities, equestrian facility staff, corporate teams, and organizations of every kind. Indoor at Palm Beach Shooting Center or outdoor at Smoke & Barrel in Okeechobee. Every session is built around your group’s specific goals and experience level — not a generic curriculum with your zip code swapped into the opening slide. Real instruction. Real results.
Stop the Bleed Certification — $75 per person (groups of 4+)
Nationally affiliated bleeding control training available to Wellington residents and Palm Beach County groups. Covers tourniquet application, wound packing, and direct pressure technique. No medical background required. One hour. All materials included. If you carry a firearm in Wellington and have never been trained to stop a bleed, you have closed half the equation. This course closes the other half.
Wellington Gun Owners Don't Go to the Range. They Go to Get Ready.
There is a moment many Wellington gun owners recognize. You have had your firearm long enough that it feels familiar. You have taken it to the range. You keep it close because you know why you bought it. But underneath that routine, a question has never fully gone away — if something happened in your driveway, in the parking lot after a late dinner on South Shore Boulevard, or during a walk through the neighborhood after dark — would you actually be ready? Not just legally permitted. Not just physically armed. Actually ready.
That question deserves a real answer. Not a forum thread. Not a crowded course where the instructor learns your name in the first ten minutes and forgets it by the last. A real answer comes from focused, one-on-one instruction built around the firearm you carry, the life you live in Wellington, and the specific people and places you are trying to protect.
That is exactly what Wellington residents get when they train with Suburban Protector. Mike works with local gun owners who are done carrying quiet uncertainty and ready to replace it with something they have actually earned. The kind of readiness that does not evaporate the moment adrenaline takes over — because you have already trained through that feeling, and you know what surfaces on the other side.
Wellington is one of the most sought-after communities in Palm Beach County — and the families who choose to live here choose it deliberately. That same deliberateness belongs in your approach to firearm preparedness. Growth along State Road 7 and Southern Boulevard means more traffic, more unfamiliar faces, and more situations where the gap between owning a firearm and being trained with one is not a minor detail. It is the only detail that matters.
